Walt Disney's Disneyland Midget Autopia in Marceline, Missouri

Here's a few of the pictures from what was once the Midget Autopia in Marceline, Missouri. The ride was donated by Walt & Roy from Disneyland in late May of 1966.

The ride was located at the Walt Disney Municipal Park in Marceline. It included 10 junior sized Autos which young kids would drive along a 603-foot winding roadway. Admiral Joe Fowler, general manager of Disneyland, oversaw the installation of the ride. Could you imagine what it would have been like to have an actual Disneyland ride brought into your own small town? As a child, that would truly have been a dream come true!

Walt, Roy and their wives were scheduled to appear at the dedication on July 4th of that same year. However, days before the ceremony Walt had to cancel due to "a cough he couldn't shake." Instead he sent a taped message for the dedication.

Walt passed away 3 months later, in December 1966.

Hi Rob

Was glad to hear that you had a good time in in our community.
this is a nice quite rural area with lots of history. I am in my 70's and have not quit grown up either. We have lived here for almost great 33 years. Since retirement in 1990 we have traveled and do lots of photography. I do most of the photography for the Disney events here in Marceline and also for the TOONFEST event. We are extremly busy now getting ready for our Cartoonist which will start arriving this week. Toonfest is the 3rd weekend of September each year. We have a site with lots of information about Marceline and our winter address in Arizona. Just use Google and type in mountainanddesertadventures This will direct you to our Web site.

PS I rarely reply to any blog as I do not have the time as processing photography takes a lot of time. No response is needed unless you wnt to,
